OCI Issues Bulletin on Telemedicine Coverage

This week WI Commissioner of Insurance Mark Afable issued a bulletin directed to health plans regarding the importance of continued coverage of telehealth services as the pandemic persists. The bulletin emphasizes that issuers “who lack access to telehealth services where in-person services are not available may be found by OCI to lack an adequate provider network…” WAFCA has communicated with a number of members who are experiencing denials of telehealth coverage from private health plans. This bulletin sends a strong signal regarding potential enforcement action. Providers should continue to support consumers in filing coverage complaints with OCI.
