Suicide Prevention Bills

On Tuesday, November 19 the Senate Committee on Education will be holding a hearing on Senate Bill 498 which would provide grants to support peer-to-peer suicide prevention programs in high schools and Senate Bill 496 which would require that student identification cards include contact information for suicide prevention hotlines. The companion bill to SB 496 (AB 531) passed the full Assembly last week as did AB 528 the companion to SB 498. Senate Committee action this week will set the bills up for final passage in the Legislature when the full body reconvenes in January.
